Collectively, the elders, including the pastor, are the highest level of servant leadership in the church, who vigilantly minister to the physical, mental and spiritual needs of the people. Elders are Biblically mandated to lead, teach and protect the church. They ensure that the mission, values and vision of the church are sustained.
Elders are stewards of the collective spiritual gifts of the people so the body can function in unity to bring about growth, health and edification. Elders are elected by the membership and meet regularly for prayer, equipping and ministry planning.
Individually, elders are to be personal examples of faithfulness and spiritual leadership. He should demonstrate the characteristics outlined in I Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9
